Parisian Gallery

THIS DESIGN FOR AN ART GALLERY IN PARIS followed the typology of the French Hôtel, in which the project introduces regular geometries to an extremely irregular site. The gallery carves a place for itself out of the existing urban fabric, bridging the gap between the axis of the Rue Antoine le Pautre and the axis of the alley and sculpture garden behind.

THIS DIAGRAM, BASED ON THE WORK of architect Giambattista Nolli, shows how the primary public spaces of the gallery relate to one another and to the surrounding context. The scale of the space matches the neighboring buildings, creating cohesion across the broader urban fabric.

THE GALLERY’S PROGRAM roughly places public spaces on the ground floor with gallery space above. Between the two open-air garden spaces, an axial shift reorients visitors as they travel through the building.
